Spotlight: School to Sea

  • by

Salem Sound Coastwatch’s School to Sea program delivers immersive, hands-on science experiences that connect learners across the North Shore to the coastal ecosystems of Salem Sound.

This fall, School to Sea is growing beyond the classroom with new family programs at the North Shore Children’s Museum in Peabody and Endicott Park in Danvers. Our “Sustainability Sundays” series invites kids to transform recycled materials into creative community projects—starting November 21 with cat scratchers made from reused cardboard for a local kitty café. At Endicott Park, our new preK program Watershed Explorers helps young scientists discover how land and sea connect through playful, sensory learning.

Leading this work is Nicole Frymier, School to Sea Director, who brings a strong background in education and nonprofit program coordination and a passion for creating inclusive, hands-on learning experiences. She’s joined by Alex Borreil, School to Sea Educator, whose field-based marine science teaching experience across the Caribbean and New England inspires learners to explore and protect their coastal environment.

Together, Nicole and Alex are helping to build curiosity, confidence, and stewardship in the next generation of ocean leaders.
