Internships

Gain Environmental Work Experience and Make a Difference

Every year, Salem Sound Coastwatch offers both for-credit and non-credit internships. For-credit academic internships are offered to qualified college students through local colleges and universities. Non-credit internships are offered to both college students and high school students.

Want to Talk Trash?

The Talking Trash 4 Clean Oceans Internship encourages students to identify problems associated with marine debris in their community and then tackle the issues to make real changes. Past Talking Trash projects have included starting the plastic bag ban in Salem and Beverly, painting storm drain murals, cigarette butt bin building, and an anti-plastic marketing campaign. Check out the Talking Trash website for more information on previous projects.

Are You an Aspiring Aquarist?

The Salem Sound Coastwatch office is home to a 100-gallon saltwater touch tank with marine animals from Salem Sound waters. The marine animals we keep in the touch tank are displayed in School to Sea programming and at community events. If you would like the challenge of feeding the marine animals and keeping the tank clean and chemically balanced, please let us know.

“I’m hopeful for the Salem Sound watershed because…

…when I worked on our marine waste problems, I was surprised by the community’s willingness to change to make things better!”
