The Massachusett Tribe in Salem: Weaving Indigenous History and Practice

September 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm

There is so much history about Indigenous people that is told through the eyes of colonizers — Join Thomas Green of the Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag for a public talk at the Salem Armory on Monday, September 18th about the oral history of their people from the year 1600 and before, including discussion of traditional fishing weirs.

Volunteers are needed on the 19th, 20th, and 21st to help with checking the weir for fish and disassembling it for Salem Public School students to build the next day. You can RSVP for Tuesday the 19th here, Wednesday the 20th here, and Thursday the 21st at info@salemsound.org or by calling (978) 741-7900. For more information on the public talk, go to bit.ly/fish-weir.

This public presentation is part of the Essex National Heritage Commission’s annual Trails and Sails event series. Visit trailsandsails.org for more events.
