SUMMARY:Salem Dance Ensemble Concert for Collins Cove
DESCRIPTION:Performances at 2:00 and 7:30pm. This concert includes original choreography by faculty\, students\, and Fall choreographer-in-residence Lonnie Stanton. Stanton has worked in collaboration with a select group of dance students to create a dance piece inspired by the restoration of the Collins Cove shoreline\, led by Salem Sound Coastwatch. Stanton and the students have spent time discussing the climate crisis as part of their creative process\, looking toward the work done at Collins Cove as a positive response to addressing erosion and coastal flooding. \n\n\n\nAdmission is free\, although a suggested goodwill offering at the door of $10 is welcome for the Dance Honor Society. Co-sponsored by the Center for Creative and Performing Arts and Salem State Earth Days. \n\n\n\nPhoto by Olivia Moon Photography

SUMMARY:2023 Salem Merry-time Fest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first annual Salem Merry-time Fest on Saturday\, August 19\, 2023\, at Salem Maritime National Historic Site on Derby Street. This event is free and open to the public. SSCW will be present at the exhibitor tents from 12 noon to 5pm. \n\n\n\nIn previous years\, Salem Maritime held the annual “Salem Maritime Festivals” at the park. Following state and local guidance\, the festival was canceled in 2020 and remained on hiatus through the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\n\n\nSalem Merry-time Fest will feature musicians\, a magician\, visiting vessels\, and hands-on activities. In addition to traditional offerings\, this year’s event will introduce the first “Great Salem Cardboard Boat Regatta.” Teams of two will test their engineering\, ingenuity\, and artistry by building homemade boats constructed of cardboard and duct tape. Launching from Derby Beach in a series of heats\, teams will race to paddle their cardboard boats in the Salem Sound. More information at nps.gov/sama/planyourvisit/salem-merry-time-fest.htm.
