SUMMARY:Marine Invasive Species Survey - Marblehead
DESCRIPTION:Join us to monitor marine invasive species! These creatures have been introduced to new locations by human activities and have damaging impacts to our local waters. Salem Sound Coastwatch has monitored marine invasive species at docks\, in tidepools\, and along the rocky shore every summer for the past 20 years with the help of community science volunteers. We are on the lookout for a variety of invasive crustaceans\, tunicates\, and seaweeds\, among others! As a founding member of the Marine Invader Monitoring and Information Collaborative (MIMIC)\, we share the data our volunteers collect with the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management\, who keeps track of the abundance of marine invaders along the North Atlantic coast.   \n\n\n\nNo experience necessary; SSCW staff will help you identify the species we’re on the lookout for. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes that can get wet. \n\n\n\nRSVP is required. Email info@salemsound.org or call (978) 741-7900 to reserve your spot. \n\n\n\nLimited parking along Harvard Street; additional parking along Harbor Ave. Meet by the beach in front of 10 Harvard Street.

SUMMARY:Salem State University - Inundation District
DESCRIPTION:Showings of Inundation District continue at Ellison Campus Center Veterans Hall for SSU’s Earth Days 2024. Directed by Pulitzer prize-winning director David Abel\, this film explores the implications of Boston’s decision to ignore the threats posed by climate change and spend billions of dollars building a new waterfront district — on landfill\, at sea level\, and in the bullseye of rising seas. This event will include a Q&A with the director afterward. Co-sponsored by Salem Alliance for the Environment.
