COASTAL ECOLOGY

Experience "Place" Like Never Before

Immerse yourself in a week of place-based learning around the local habitats in the coastal watershed of Salem Sound. With this exdperiential approach, you will explore the local rivers and wetlands of the Salem Sound Watershed as well as have ocean learning experiences in Salem Sound aboard the boat, Endeavour. You will learn to use the outdoors as a means of delivering your teaching goals and providing opportunities for your students to experience science in their local community, making authentic connections and gaining deeper understandings.

Core Ideas

  • Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics (sea level rise, invasive species, water quality)
  • Earth's Systems (climate change, topography, water, erosion)
  • Earth and Human Activity (marine debris, stormwater, invasive species, coastal resiliency)
  • Engineering (underwater robotics, designing solutions to
    coastal problems)
