In 2009 Danvers Harbormaster got its first ever Pump-out Boat. With financial assistance from the Division of Marine Fisheries and the Clean Vessel Act, the Town of Danvers and the Danversport Yacht Club have partnered to make getting one's boat head pumped out convenient and free. 150 people joined SSCW to see the movie, A Sea Change, and learn about ocean acidification. The Film will be shown again on April 28, 2010 at the Abbott Library, Marblehead.

Last June, the St Joseph Middle School joined SSCW in its battle to control the invasive pepperweed by removing pepperweed from the Salem Maritime NPS on Derby Wharf and at the beach. Also, employees of Timberland helped us remove pepperweed from Forest River Park.

Read about Salem Sound Coastwatch's new restoration and habitat monitoring projects funded by the MA Division of Ecological Restoration. We will also be conducting a clam survey at Mill Pond in Gloucester next fall for the third year.

Coastwatch continues to work the "Top 5 Tasks for Salem Sound Watershed"

We have made an extensive addition to our website with the
Marine Introduced Species Monitoring Resource Center.

Developed by Salem Sound Coastwatch through funding from
Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, it provides
a wealth of information necessary for volunteers to become
MIS monitors or for volunteer coordinators to initiate a monitoring
program. Also, check out our monitoring manual available in a
downloadable PDF, A Citizen's Guide to Monitoring Marine Invasive Species and our Laminated ID Cards Guide to Marine Invaders in the Gulf of Maine.
