Deer Island Point

Deer Island public access area is open to the public year-round, from sunrise to sunset and features five miles of public walkways and trails for walking, jogging, sightseeing, picnicking, fishing and bicycling, plus dramatic views of the Boston skyline and Harbor Islands and specatular closeups of airport landings and takeoffs. The parking area is at the end of Tafts Ave. You will need to carry your kayak down the path to the Broad Sound side.

Deer Island Windmills

The twelve egg-shaped, 140-foot-tall digesters are part of the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Winthrop. The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority discharges treated wastewater effluent from Deer Island out Massachusetts Bay. Paddle around the island to view these and the wind turbines.
