Derby Wharf is located at the Salem Maritime Historic Site, which has wheelchair accessible restrooms. Derby Wharf Beach is about 350 feet from Derby Street. Kayaks can be carried down the gravel path or across the grass to reach this small beach.

Derby Wharf Beach

The "Friendship" - a working replica of the Salem East Indiaman tall ship - is just a short paddle around to the other side of Derby Wharf.

ramp at Central Wharf

At low tide, an extensive mudflat is exposed off the beach so it is important to time your paddle correctly. However, there is a stone ramp on the other side of Derby Wharf at Central Wharf that can be used as a haulout. If a coffee break is needed, Jaho Coffee and Tea is right around the corner on Derby Street.

Derby Wharf view from the Lighthouse

Paddling around the wharf provides a magnificiant view of historic Salem, Derby Wharf and the Lighthouse, which is just over a quarter of a mile from the beach.
